Squeaky Wheel Productions was founded in 2016 by Alexander Peeler, a filmmaker and disability advocate from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Alex, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – a life-threatening condition that gradual weakens his muscles, started the company to combine his passion for filmmaking and advocacy in order to fight for the rights of people with disabilities. Shortly thereafter, the company’s mission was expanded to include the rights of all minorities, including women, indigenous people, visible minorities, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Squeaky Wheel Productions’ mission is to promote equality and empowerment using digital media. This mission is accomplished by speaking to inspiring individuals as they share their stories of overcoming adversity, but we are always looking for new and improved ways to fulfill this objective. One such example is our weekly YouTube series, which addresses important disability-related issues such as accessibility and inclusion. It is through activities like these that we will continually strive to make the world a better place now and in the future.
